About this lesson

The index fingers cover the widest column on each hand: f g r t v b on the left, j h u y n m on the right. Every one of those reaches starts and ends on F or J.

This drill uses only index-finger keys, so any hesitation in the line is a reach to fix rather than a new key to learn.

The lesson passes at 95% accuracy. Type the whole passage; the next lesson unlocks when the accuracy target is met or when you choose to skip.

This is a sequence drill, not a speed measurement, so no live WPM is shown while you type. Elapsed time and character accuracy update as you go, and net WPM is reported once the whole passage is finished. The formulas are documented on thetyping lessons page.

Practice tips

  • Move the whole finger, not the wrist, for vertical reaches.
  • Return to F or J after every key.
  • If a word goes wrong, backspace and retype it.
