Lesson 5 of 10
Little fingers
The little fingers own the outer edge of the keyboard, including Shift and the semicolon. This short drill gives them the work they usually avoid.
Practice drill
Type the passage below. The keyboard guide highlights the next key, the hand guide names the finger, and the panel on the right keeps the clock and the accuracy target in view. Progress is saved on this device.

Type the line with the little fingers. Keep the hand relaxed, use the fingertip, and take the Shift only when the guide asks for it.

About this lesson
The little fingers take the outside edge of the board — a, q and z on the left; semicolon, p and slash on the right — and they are also the fingers that hold Shift. That makes them disproportionately important.
The drill includes the semicolon deliberately: it is the most-missed home-row key.
The lesson passes at 94% accuracy. Type the whole passage; the next lesson unlocks when the accuracy target is met or when you choose to skip.
This is a sequence drill, not a speed measurement, so no live WPM is shown while you type. Elapsed time and character accuracy update as you go, and net WPM is reported once the whole passage is finished. The formulas are documented on thetyping lessons page.
Practice tips
- Use the tip of the little finger, not the side.
- Let the hand stay quiet while the finger reaches.
- Do not twist the wrist to reach P.
Keep going
Every lesson follows the same routine: one clean run, then move on. The full order, the keys each lesson covers and the pass targets are on thetyping lessons page. When you want a plain speed measurement instead of a drill, take thetyping test.
